Today’s youths are pampered. What are your views?
I just felt like putting out another expository essay on Tumblr. I completed this on the 17th of February and scored 22 upon 30. It was a class exercise but I felt that I had to get this message out. Feel free to comment.
The youths of today can be defined as people aged between 13 and 18 who are living in Singapore, and the pampered are the individuals who lead an easy and sheltered life. In this age, the two social groups are increasingly overlapping due to the comfortable time that we live in. Most people agree that the youths of today have a better life than the youths of yesteryear but the real question is, are today’s youths really pampered or have they become pampered due to the conditions that they are born in?
Singaporeans tend to agree that the youth are pampered due to their developed environment. The past few years have been relatively peaceful and prosperous which causes the future generations to be brought up in a safe and carefree environment. The youth do not need to do much to get what they want as their basic necessities are treated like a given. With the advancement of society, anything, be it material or intangible, can be acquired by the youth quite quickly. This causes them to expect instant gratification from anything they do in life. The popular opinion of the youth being pampered stems from their expectation of instant results but there is also another reason. Today’s youth have also been brought up in environments where people guide them in almost every single task. The youth then become dependent on others to tell them how to carry out certain tasks, leading to an apathetic view of learning how to carry out such tasks as they assume that there will always be someone to guide them every step of the way. These two generalisations are the main fuel for the though that today’s youth are pampered.
On the other hand, not all of today’s youths are pampered. There are those who do not lead a lavish lifestyle but instead have to earn their own living. There are youth who have to get a part-time job to support themselves and sometimes even their family. These youth do not enjoy the same luxuries that most of the other youth do. Critics also claim that it is not the youth who chose to be pampered but it is due to the time that they are born in and that parents want the best for their children. This causes people to think that the youth are pampered when in fact, it is the environment which lead to their lavish lifestyle.
I feel that today’s youth are pampered as they are living in the best of times with very easy lifestyles. They no longer have to travel far distances daily like the youth of yesteryear. However, the youth have a choice to not be spoilt if they choose to be more thankful for their living conditions.

Insert a coin. Your selected piece of china will fall to the bottom of the vending machine. It will shatter. This project by artist Yarisa and Kublitz. If you feel better when you do it, because the designers contends that this machine will make you feel better.

National Environmental Agency
NEA is bloody unprofessional. They knocked on my door and my brother politely refused to let them in and they said “kenape bang? takut ke ape?” (malay slang for “what’s wrong bro? afraid of something?”) right before they left. That was very uncalled for. And this is the second time they acted unprofessionally.
